Senior doctor ‘died from Michael Jackson drug’
A SENIOR doctor may have died after an overdose of the same drug that killed Michael Jackson.
The body of Paul holder, 44, was found in an operating theatre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on March 3.
The father of three’s death certificate lists the cause of death as ‘presumed propofol and rocuronium intoxication, pending investigation’.
Both drugs provide sedation and an overdose of propofol was blamed for singer Jackson’s death in 2009.
Anaesthetist Mr holder, from near newmacher, Aberdeenshire, was found by a member of staff at the hospital and police launched an investigation.
Last night, NHS Grampian said neither of the substances listed on the death certificate were controlled drugs.
A spokesman for the health board added he was not aware what ‘pending investigation’ referred to on the certificate.
Mr holder is survived by his wife Karen and their three children, aged 12, ten and seven.
Tributes to the rugby fan on social media describe him as a ‘great guy’, a ‘gentleman’ and a ‘pleasure to work with’.
According to the records held by the General Medical Council, Mr holder received his primary medical qualification from the University of Aberdeen in 1998.
he joined the specialist register for anaesthetics and intensive care medicine from november 2007.
