Orkney standing stone vandalised

-

POLICE are looking for vandals who damaged a ‘priceless’ historical stone circle that has stood for nearly 5,000 years.

Graffiti was found on a standing stone at the Ring of Brodgar in Orkney, a ceremonial site near Stenness, above.

The site is the third largest stone circle in the British Isles and is part of a wider Unesco World Heritage Site known as the Heart of Neolithic Orkney.

It originally consisted of 60 stones, 27 of which are still standing today.

The vandalism is thought to have occurred between the afternoon of April 5 and morning of April 7.
