Pass the Marigolds! Scotland gets a spring clean

- By Paul Rodger

STRANRAER has scrubbed up nicely, there’s a fresh air about Wick and Shotts is getting a new sheen.

As this aerial view of the attraction known as the Great Polish Map of Scotland shows, work is well under way to give the whole country a spring clean. After years of neglect the concrete relief map, which is 55 yards long and 44 yards wide, was lovingly restored by volunteers.

Stunning aerial pictures show the scale of the map, created by Polish WWII veteran Jan Tomasik. Built between 1974 and 1979 in the grounds of Barony Castle, once owned by Mr Tomasik, in Eddleston, Peeblesshire, it is the largest physical 3-D map of a country in the world.
