Celtic look at Harper

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

CELTIC have entered the race to land West Bromwich Albion contract rebel Rekeem Harper. Neil Lennon travelled south to watch the 19-year-old midfielder make a late substitute appearance in West Brom’s English Championship semi-final

defeat by Aston Villa. And Sportsmail has learned that Harper and his representatives were in Glasgow to watch Sunday’s win over Hearts and the presentation of the league trophy following a VIP tour of the club. Out of contract this summer, the former England Under-19 international was identified as a target by recruitment chief Lee Congerton before he left to join Brendan Rodgers at Leicester earlier this month. Harper has made 23 first-team appearances this season, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City also reported to be interested. West Brom have confirmed on their official website that they have made a second and final contract offer to the youngster (left). Celtic have told interim boss Lennon they will sit down to discuss his prospects of becoming permanent manager after Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts at Hampden. Despite indecision over the managerial situation, however, plans to sign players continue. With Dedryck Boyata leaving for Hertha Berlin, Derby County’s onloan Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori has been watched. As Sportsmail first reported, Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset is another target as Celtic embark on a substantial squad rebuild.
