Go Forth, explore and enjoy
DAY2: LOCHS, COASTAL AND VALLEY TRAILS
WELCOME to day two of our special five-part series on Scotland’s best road trips – the definitive guide to the nation’s most spectacular routes.
A road trip is one of the easiest and best ways to explore our many miles of stunning scenery, from dramatic coastlines to sweeping countryside and welcoming towns and villages.
Every day this week – in association with VisitScotland – we’ll be sharing our 14 favourite routes, from family day trips to leisurely weekend breaks and oncein-a-lifetime experiences such as the epic North Coast 500.
Today, we are exploring the Clyde Sea Lochs Trail, the Clyde Valley Tourist Route, Deeside Tourist Route, Fife Coastal Route and the Forth Valley Tourist Route. We’ll be covering miles of fascinating attractions and scenic spots from Dumbarton all the way north to Royal Deeside.
Highlights will include the engineering marvels that are the Forth bridges – including the new £1.35billion Queensferry Crossing – and Scone Palace, the crowning place of Scottish kings, including Robert the Bruce.
The whole family will love a stop at New Lanark – one of Scotland’s six Unesco World Heritage Sites. The former 18th century mill village, on the banks of the Falls of Clyde, has a fascinating visitor centre and the site is surrounded by beautiful woodland to explore.
Discover the story of Scotland’s oldest Highland regiment at the Black Watch Museum, and learn about shipbuilding at the Scottish Maritime Museum.
So what are you waiting for? Hit the high road and enjoy everything that Scotland has to offer.
