Baby of knife horror mother-to-be dies

- By Arthur Martin and Miles Dilworth

A BABY boy rescued from his dying mother’s womb after she was fatally stabbed has died in hospital.

Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle, 26, was eight months pregnant when she was knifed to death in her home in the early hours of Saturday.

Paramedics were unable to save her, but managed to successfully deliver her son, Riley. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died four days later.

Miss Fauvrelle’s grieving family had been maintaining a vigil at the hospital since Sunday. Police could also treat Riley’s death as murder.

Scotland Yard yesterday released CCTV footage of a man in a hoodie walking towards Miss Fauvrelle’s home in Croydon, south London, at 3.11am on Saturday just before the attack. Ten minutes later he can be seen running away.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman described the investigation as ‘extremely challenging’ and said it was vital to identify the man on film.

He said Miss Fauvrelle’s mother, brothers and sister were all in the house when she was attacked. They heard her screams, but the killer escaped without being seen.

DCI Norman added: ‘It was a savage and sustained attack on a clearly and obviously heavily pregnant woman, which has had catastrophic results.’

Two men were arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday. One, aged 37, was released under investigation and a second, aged 29, was released on bail until early next month.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said the community was ‘saddened’ by the baby’s death, adding ‘Everyone is in shock. I am frightened. We don’t know who did it and whether they might come back.’
