FREEVIEW MOVIE Dad’s Army, 8pm, ITV3

WALMINGTON-on-Sea’s Home Guard face an enemy in their midst in this revisit to the popular BBC sitcom. It’s an affectionate tribute, with great casting — Toby Jones as Mainwaring, Bill Nighy as Wilson — even if the modern techniques make it all a bit too slick and glossy.

MAKEOVER MASTERS Queer Eye, Netflix

THE feel-good U.S. series returns, and subject number one is Kathi, a selfless teacher who’s had a fiery red mullet ‘since the beginning of time’. Queer Eye grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness (pictured with Kathi) remembers her from his childhood — when he was one of the school’s first male cheerleaders — and is excited to be giving his old orchestra teacher a fresh look.

CRIME SOLVER Perception, 9pm, 5 USA

A NEW, third season opens in Paris, where twitchy neuropsychiatrist Dr Pierce (Eric McCormack) is being mocked by a mime (because it’s Paris). He’s also offered a case that involves some exciting, James Bondstyle antics with the Chinese and a mysterious pen (because it’s Paris).

MURDER MYSTERY Agatha Raisin, 9pm, Sky One

LIKE Midsomer Murders, but brighter and even sillier, this series takes a supernatural turn in the first of tonight’s double bill as PR-turnedsleuth Agatha (Ashley Jensen) rents a cottage — and sees some fairies. Agatha also picks up a case on her hols, which is just what she was trying to avoid.

CLASSY DRAMA Olive Kitteridge, 9pm, Sky Atlantic

THIS two-part drama from HBO dissects the marriage of terse schoolteacher Olive (Frances McDormand) to a soft-hearted pharmacist. What drives her to consider the action we see in the first scene? A masterclass in acting, writing and storytelling.

GROWN-UP BOY BAND A Night In With Bros, 10pm, BBC4

MATT and Luke (pictured) present an evening of TV inspired by their childhood, as well as unseen moments from their riveting reunion documentary, After The Screaming Stops — which follows at 11.30pm. Still, the brothers Goss have a unique repartee that should be entertaining enough all by itself.

HORROR FILM Overlord, 10.20pm, Sky Premiere

DURING World War II, U.S. paratroopers land behind enemy lines and witness grisly Nazi experiments on French villagers. Wyatt (son of Kurt) Russell stars.

SPORTING INSIGHT All Or Nothing: The Carolina Panthers, Amazon Prime

THE strength of Amazon’s series about the American football team during the 2018 NFL season is in how it brings intriguing stories out of the players, giving people with no interest in gridiron a way into the show. Everything else — including Jon Hamm’s narration and great in-game photography — is a bonus.
