‘Many of us assume we’re not the “exercise type”, especially if we come from an unsporty family or hated Pe at school,’ says Professor Ken Fox, emeritus Professor at Bristol university and an expert in exercise and health. He has helped develop Slimming World’s Body Magic activity programme, which encourages members to build activity into their daily lives.

THE myth that you are not the type for exercise can be a barrier to getting started — preventing you from discoverin­g that being active will not only help with your weight-loss goals, but also give you more energy, help combat stress and bring a better sense of mental wellbeing.

Professor Fox suggests that beginning with something achievable and then slowly building up is the easiest way to get started. ‘By doing this, you’ll gain confidence quickly and soon find yourself looking for new things to try,’ he says.
