Do I need to use SPF on my lips?

-

YeS, most definitely. ‘when the skin on your face and body is exposed to sun, it will produce melanin, sweat or oil to try to protect itself, but the lips are comprised of a different, more delicate type of skin that does’t have the ability to do this,’ says beauty expert Alison Young.

‘Your lips are just as vulnerable to sunburn and skin cancer as the rest of your body, so when you’re in strong summer sun, don’t forget to protect your lips, too, with an SPF of 30 or more’.

The good news for lipstick devotees is you don’t have to choose between colour and sun protection. Kaplan Perfect Pout Lipstick (£30, kaplanmd.com, left), available in eight shades, plump s and hydrates lips and contains SPF 30.
