THE LIKEABLE comedian Katherine Ryan was born in Canada, and now lives in London with her daughter, Violet. The child sees herself as superior to her mum by virtue of her English accent, and Ryan (pictured) is on a quest to find some British ancestry that will ‘put my daughter in her place’. Her mother’s side is the most likely source, and the journey makes a promising start as she visits a stunning library in Canada to read the poetry of threetimes great-grandfather, James Arminius Richey — an intriguing fellow, but sadly not British. Undaunted, Ryan digs deeper and deeper — and is rewarded with an unexpected revelation…
