Erm, nice f irst day at school, darling?

- Daily Mail Reporter

WITH her freshly polished shoes, straight tie and carefully brushed hair held in place by a black and yellow bow, Lucie Falconer looked all set for the first day of term.

But when she returned home in the afternoon with skirt askew, wild hair and one sock around her ankle, she looked more like she had been dragged through a hedge backwards.

Now the before-and-after pictures of her return to school following the summer holidays have gone viral online.

Lucie, five, from Neilston, East Renfrewshire, was smartly turned out in her uniform ahead of her first day back.

With a beaming smile for the camera, she seemed excited to be moving up to P2.

But within a matter of hours, the Neilston Primary pupil was no longer quite so brighteyed and bushy-tailed.

A perfectly-timed image captured by her mother Jillian Falconer showed the youngster returning home looking exhausted, dishevelled and sporting an exhausted frown.

In the picture, a tired-looking Lucie lugs her unicorn backpack wearily by its strap with her hair and ribbon out of place, her tie undone and her socks uneven.

Miss Falconer said: ‘She had her skirt almost round her ankles and a bow at the back of her hair.

‘I think her clothes were too big, slightly, and she was pleased to see her friends.’

She added: ‘I did say to her, “What did you do today?” and got usual reply all children give: “Oh, nothing much”.

‘She’s the smallest and is a wee madam. But she is normally very shy, except when she’s around her brothers.’

Miss Falconer said that her daughter was also quite tired after a big first day and went to bed earlier than usual.

‘She was pleased to see her friends’
