Should Ken Clarke be interim Prime Minister?

-

AFTER Ken Clarke’s generous offer to take over the role of Prime Minister — a position that is filled — I am astounded at his ignorance of the democratic process. If the referendum result had been for us to stay in the EU, how would he have reacted to other MPs trying to force us to leave? He would have accepted that majority vote because he agreed with the result. Will he challenge the next General Election result if he doesn’t agree with how we vote? JANET DUTTON, Alsager, Cheshire. HOW arrogant of Ken Clarke to compare today’s politics to the perilous situation that prevailed during two World Wars, which brought about a government of national unity. The state of the nation today has been brought about by hundreds of MPs such as him who won’t accept the result of the EU referendum. Instead of fighting to get us out, as the people wished, they have done just the opposite.

N. WOODS, Chilton, Co. Durham. KEN CLARKE states we are in a similar situation to the two World Wars — what rubbish! Many people made enormous sacrifices to achieve victory. In later years, we applauded Ronald Reagan and Mrs Thatcher who were a great influence in breaking up the USSR, yet some of our politicians seem set to keep us in a similar dictatorial state, the EU. The British people voted ‘out’ in the referendum, so our politicians should support Boris Johnson in his mission to leave the EU. GEOFF PRITCHARD, Crewe, Cheshire.
