I dreamt I swallowed my engagement ring – then woke to find I really had!

- From Emily Kent Smith in San Francisco

DREAMING you’ve lost your engagement ring is going to give any bride the pre-wedding jitters.

For Jenna Evans, 29, the nightmare really came true – when she swallowed her diamond ring in her sleep.

Miss Evans said she had a vivid dream in which she was on a train being held up by bandits, and her fiance told her to hide the jewellery in her mouth.

Looking down at her hand the next morning, she realised it was missing.

She woke up her fiance, Bob Howell, telling him: ‘I did something really stupid last night.’ Although the pair found it funny at first, Miss Evans realised she would need to have the ring removed in hospital.

X-ray images showed it sitting above her lungs. In others, the diamond can be seen glittering against the lining of her stomach. ‘It was very clear, there was no looking for it, it was just right there,’ she said.

Doctors decided that the best way to remove the piece of jewellery, which Miss Evans had designed herself, was through an endoscopy, under general anaesthetic. They feared that waiting for it to come out naturally could cause internal damage.

‘Everything went great, they found my ring just beyond my stomach in my intestines, retrieved it and gave it to Bobby, not me,’ said the bride-to-be, from San Diego, California. ‘Bobby finally gave my ring back this morning – I promised not to swallow it again. We’re still getting married and all is right in the world.’ The pair have been engaged since April and plan to get married in Texas next May.

When Miss Evans re-traced the night’s events, she remembered washing down the ring with a glass of water. At first, she assumed it was part of her dream – which she said are often ‘exciting and vivid’. But, she told US broadcaster KGTV, she only realised her sleep-induced mishap in the morning.

Doctors have recommended that Miss Evans starts sleep therapy – and she now takes off her ring before bed, ‘just in case’.
