DUTCH KEEPER BRACED FOR AN IBROX ‘MADHOUSE’

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

FEYENOORD goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer last night warned his team-mates they will be entering a footballing madhouse when they visit Ibrox. Vermeer was part of the Ajax squad that lost 2-1 in the Champions League at Celtic Park in October 2013. And he expects Thursday night’s Europa League encounter with Rangers to be just as intense as his last trip to Glasgow. ‘There is always a good atmosphere in Scotland — it will be a madhouse,’ said 33-year-old Vermeer. ‘We just have to enjoy it but ensure that we bring home a result.’ Meanwhile, Feyenoord boss Jaap Stam faces a dilemma over whether to give new £7million signing Marcos Senesi an Ibrox baptism of fire in the opening Europa League Group G encounter with Steven Gerrard’s side. Stam opted not to hand a debut to the Argentinian defender, who signed from San Lorenzo on transfer deadline day, against Den Haag on Sunday as he had only returned from international duty a couple of days before the game. Now he has a decision to make whether to pitch the 22-year-old in against Rangers. Stam said: ‘We have to start quietly with Marcos. He has to get used to another country, a different culture, different players and a different way of playing. We are careful with that. He’s trained with us but I thought, with all the travelling, it would be asking a lot to start him at the weekend. ‘But he’s certainly available for Rangers and I will have to decide whether to play him.’ Stam confirmed that last season’s top scorer Steven Berghuis will be fit for Thursday night’s showdown despite missing the 3-2 weekend victory over Den Haag with a knee problem. And Feyenoord were further boosted up front after Danish striker Nicolai Jorgensen made his comeback at the weekend after three months out following a knee operation. Jorgensen has vowed to repay the fans for the warm reception they gave him on his return by scoring at Ibrox. He said: ‘I got emotional. Even when I was warming up they were cheering me. ‘The fans are brilliant and I would love to score for them against Rangers as a way of repaying them for their support.’
