BBC journalist’s wife killed in crash

- By Annie Butterworth

THE wife of a former BBC broadcaster was killed in a car crash at the weekend.

Retired teacher Joan Anderson, 63, was involved in a two-car collision near Rosemarkie, Easter Ross, on Saturday.

Her husband, Craig Anderson, who recently retired after decades as a BBC journalist, yesterday paid tribute to his ‘wonderful’ wife of 43 years.

Mr Anderson said: ‘All of us are in complete shock at the moment. Joan and I were a couple for 43 years, since our student days in Aberdeen, and Joan was the most wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

‘She loved life and lived it to the full. Even at this early stage the many expressions of support and sympathy we have had from friends and colleagues prove how well loved and respected Joan was.’

He added: ‘In her working life as a teacher she was dedicated and so well regarded professionally. And to our family and friends she was the dearest friend anyone could have wished for.’

Mrs Anderson’s family also thanked locals who helped search for the couple’s dog which ran off after the crash. He has now been reunited with the family.

The collision happened around 11.40am on the B9160 near its junction with the A832. Mrs Anderson, from Culbokie, Ross-shire, was driving a Skoda Octavia, which was in collision with another Skoda.

A man and a woman in the other car involved suffered serious but not lifethreatening injuries.

Road Policing Sergeant Alan Henderson said: ‘Our thoughts remain with Mrs Anderson’s family and friends. Our inquiries into the circumstances continue and anyone with information should contact police.’

Earlier this year, Mr Anderson, the first TV reporter on the scene after the Lockerbie bombing, received a lifetime achievement award at the Highlands and Islands Press Ball following his retirement.
