SIBBALD WILL RELISH DUEL WITH ARFIELD

- GEORGE GRANT

LIVINGSTON midfielder Craig Sibbald is looking forward to locking horns with Scott Arfield tonight after admitting he was inspired by the Rangers player during their Falkirk days. Sibbald is six years younger than the Canada international and even though they did not play together at the Bairns, the Lions playmaker was still in awe of Arfield from afar. The Rangers player earned a £500,000 move to Huddersfield in 2010 before becoming a seasoned Premier League campaigner with Burnley. Sibbald has kept close tabs on his career but is now keen to get one over on the 30-year-old in this evening’s televised Betfred Cup quarter-final tie. ‘I was at Falkirk at the same time as Scott Arfield, so know him from there,’ he said. ‘When I was younger, I used to help with the kit around the place and he was on the groundstaff at the same time. ‘So we would both be doing the kit and doing the boots. ‘I used to look up to him. He played in the same position as me and took the penalties, too. ‘I remember watching him at Falkirk and thinking that’s what I want to be like in my own career. ‘He’s done really well for himself, so he was the player all the young lads at Falkirk looked up to. ‘He moved on from Falkirk down to Huddersfield and did well in the Championship in England for them. ‘He went to Burnley after that and played in the Premier League, so all the players at Falkirk looked at him as proof of what was possible.’ Livingston stunned Ibrox by taking the lead against Steven Gerrard’s side in the Premiership encounter before falling to a 3-1 defeat 11 days ago. Sibbald sat out that match but has nonetheless been impressed with the Glasgow club’s start to the season. ‘When we played them the other week at Ibrox I wasn’t involved but thought they passed the ball well,’ he said. ‘They have had some very good results in Europe and will have plenty of confidence.’
