Mini-Indian summer due this weekend

- By Paul Drury

SCOTLAND is set to enjoy a weekend of sunshine as England is battered by wind and rain.

In a reversal of the norm, Scots can expect some fair weather with temperatures in the mid to high teens.

Oli Claydon of the Met Office said: ‘It’s going to be a very pleasant weekend.

‘We have storm warnings in place for Wales and the North of England from Saturday evening until Sunday night.

‘Scotland, on the other hand, is in for the best of British weather from Friday through to Sunday.’

He said today would start with clear, bright spells across most of the country. There will still be the occasional shower but winds will drop, making things feel much calmer.

Tomorrow, forecasters predict sunshine from afternoon into the evening and temperatures of 17C (62F) – several degrees above average for the end of September. The pleasant weather will be most prevalent in the Glasgow area, which will be enjoying the city’s holiday weekend.

The southern part of the UK will suffer again on Sunday, when a low pressure system arrives, bringing rain. At worst, Scotland will be a little showery.

Mr Claydon said: ‘As low pressure moves away to the east next week, expect cooler air to make things feel a lot fresher.

‘Temperatures will drop to 15C (59F) on Monday and 13C (55F) by Tuesday.’

Wales and the north of England, including Manchester, have been warned to prepare for one-and-a-half inches of rain falling in the space of a few hours.
