Queen ‘took advice on firing Boris’

-

THE Queen has been seeking advice on whether she has the power to sack a prime minister, it was reported last night.

She asked aides whether she could oust a premier who refused to stand aside, a source told the i newspaper. The guidance was requested before the Supreme Court ruling that Boris Johnson’s decision to suspend Parliament was ‘unlawful, void and of no effect’.

Buckingham Palace said it ‘would not comment on rumours’.

But another source told the Mail: ‘The Royal Household and Government have spoken on the constitution and Her Majesty’s role, but to insinuate that this would extend to the Queen stepping in to remove the Prime Minister or advise him to step down would be untrue.’

In a telephone call last week Mr Johnson apologised to the Queen for the embarrassment caused by the court ruling. He said ‘how sorry he was’, aides confirmed.
