Take your marks... for a huge fancy dress party

- By Gavin Madeley

THOUSANDS of Scots turned the streets of Glasgow into a fancy dress party for the Great Scottish Run.

Nearly 30,000 took part in the half-marathon and 10K events yesterday.

Not even overcast late September skies could dampen their spirits as many dressed up in everything from garish wigs to bright tutus.

The annual event started in George Square, with more than 50 roads closed for the race.

Edith Chelimo of Kenya set a new course record to win the elite women’s race. The 33-year-old finished in 1:07:38 after a powerful display of front-running.

Timothy Toroitich of Uganda won the elite men’s race. The 27-year-old crossed the finishing line at Glasgow Green in a time of 1:01:29.

England’s Chris Thompson, bidding for a third successive title, struggled with the fierce pace and finished seventh.
