QI’M IN such a quandary. I’m 58 and have been in a relationship with a lovely man for just over a year.

Before this, I was single for more than a decade, following a painful divorce. I earned more than him, as I’m a lawyer, and lost a lot of money — and time — in the split. We parted on bad terms.

That really put me off the whole idea of marriage. I swore I’d never put myself through that again.

Then I met my new partner, out of the blue, at a friend’s party. I’m so in love. He is wonderful, and I was happy with the way things were going until he asked me to marry him.

I know I should be over the moon. My other single friends think I’m mad! But I just couldn’t say yes. I said I had to think about it, because I’m terrified. I’m worried it’s ruining everything. What should I do?
