IT IS possible to have both knees done at the same time — and it halves recovery time.

A double, or bilateral, op is no more risky than having one joint done after the other, but it’s not for everyone.

Younger, healthier patients are better candidates ‘as the demand on the patient early on in recovery is more difficult,’ explains Martyn Porter, an orthopaedi­c surgeon who works at Wrightingt­on Hospital in Wigan.
