We’re facing a crisis by having large families

-

THe letter from roger napthine (Mail) concerning the abolition of private schools misses the point.

Mr napthine proudly describes himself as a ‘father of seven and grandfather to 17’. Does he not realise that it is people like him who are the prime source of so many of our woes?

There is a shortage of school places, either state, independent or private. Large families such as this only exacerbate the shortage, however the problems go far deeper than education.

We are told that there is a housing crisis. rubbish. What we have is a population crisis. Where are we going to build enough houses to cope with the everexpanding population?

Larger families are the prime source of man-made global warming. More people require more transport for the manufacture and supply of food, and other goods and services — hence more trucks and vans spewing fumes. More trucks and vans require more roads, and yet road building is resisted by the green lobby.

a larger population results in a larger requirement for medical services. no matter how many hospitals are built, we will never keep pace with the increasing demands of a bigger population. BoB HowarD, Southall, Middx.

Selfish SNP strategy

niCOLa Sturgeon is prepared to help Corbyn into power in 10 Downing Street. it is common knowledge that Labour policies will be a disaster for the UK.

it follows, then, that if Labour wins an election it will grant a second independence referendum which, in turn, means that if the SnP loses again we are all at the mercy of the dire consequences of the Labour government.

The SnP does not care how it fulfills its selfish ambitions, even to the extent of plunging the UK into chaos. ian BalloCH, Grangemouth, Stirlingshire.

End the deadlock

i aM against a second referendum, but at this point i can see no other solution to break the deadlock.

as it was us, the electorate, who voted Leave and caused this chaos, should we then not be given a chance to end it?

as a nation we have heard nothing but Brexit for nearly three years now, so for a second referendum, campaigning from either side should be banned, as in my opinion, we are all now very well informed on the subject. Yes, let the people decide.

MiCK tEDDEr, Dover, Kent. We are going through a Brexit circular nightmare in the UK. Perhaps the eU could end our political warfare by making the following statement.

‘The eU will not grant a UK extension beyond October 31. However, it would allow any future UK government to rejoin the eU with the same conditions as it has today if the UK applies before December 31, 2020.’ DErEK BlaCKloCK,

Just jaw-dropping

WiTH all parties putting themselves first, and the country last, over Brexit, when Stewart Hosie, of the SnP, accused the Liberals of ‘playing party games’, at the weekend, my jaw dropped.

The SnP accusing someone else of this is breathtaking! He should remember the old saying about people in glass houses! williaM BallantinE,

Bo’ness, west lothian.

Imagine EU future

WHY don’t politicians ever mention what would happen if we stayed in the eU? With many countries going into recession, we will be giving even more money to the eU. What will happen to our schools, nHS, housing shortage? Will we contribute to the new army being formed?

Do the unelected Brussels rulers decide who we fight and go to war with? Please tell us what is going to be put onto us in a future eU.

Travel bust-up

i WOULD like to reply on behalf of Thomas Cook clients to Barry Thomas’s letter in the Mail.

Dear Mr Thomas, i am sorry you and your family haven’t had a holiday for years, but these clients have saved every penny, some for years, to celebrate a special occasion. it’s not their fault that due to the incompetence of higher management, the firm has gone bust. Let’s hope if you take a holiday everything goes OK. if it doesn’t, i hope we can help you get home. i don’t mind my taxes being spent to bring you safely back.
