Parkinson’s means applying make-up is tricky. Could tattooing be the answer?
QI’M 63 and have Parkinson’s disease. The tremors in my right hand will make applying make-up harder in future — should I consider tattooing?
And do you have any beauty advice to make life easier?
AHoW tough, and well done for facing this head-on. Cleverly chosen permanent make-up is a great idea and a real confidence booster.
I would recommend subtle eyeliner to highlight your eyes — you might even be able to dispense with mascara.
Leading permanent make-up (PMu) artist Karen Betts (karen
betts.com) urges you to do your research and find a properly trained and insured artist (her K.B Pro PMu academies offer Level 4 qualifications and are accredited by the Associated Beauty Therapists and Beauty Guild professional bodies; some courses, in contrast, last just days).
Make sure they can show a wide portfolio of permanent make-up and medical tattooing and check you like their style. Karen’s team would charge £395 to £795 for eyeliner; brows or even a soft blush lip would be slightly more.
As for products, get into the habit of using gently tinted cream textures that blend well and can be rubbed on even with your left hand.
Have a look at BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturiser SPF30 (£29), 3INA Cream Eyeshadows (£12.95) and Korres Lip Butters (£8, all look
