Is Lewis Hamilton a climate change hypocrite?

-

LEWIS HAMILTON is at the top level of motor racing, one of the most polluting sports on earth. The F1 circus travels around the world belching out tonnes of carbon emissions into the atmosphere. The vegan diet he espouses because of his fears of climate change includes food flown from across the world, some of which is highly processed. The majority of land used in livestock farming is unsuitable for growing anything else, so perhaps the advice should be to eat more home-grown meat and seasonal, local fruit and vegetables. J. GILL, York. BEFORE I join Lewis Hamilton’s vegan club to save the planet, I’d like his views on the F1 carbon footprint. The thousands of miles covered transporting cars and staff to venues all over the world. The elite of the sport, who travel in private planes and helicopters. The emissions as the cars burn rubber at breakneck speed. Then, at the end of each race, salt is rubbed in the wounds by spraying champagne on the floor. Lewis Hamilton is a well-respected sportsman and nice chap, but I’ll need more convincing before I give up my bacon sarnie. PIERS MINALL, Leverington, Cambs. ‘I FEEL like giving up everything’ because of climate change, says Lewis Hamilton. Presumably, that includes motor racing, the career that makes him millions while emitting high levels of exhaust fumes. J. R. WINFIELD, Scotton, N. Yorks. A MAN who has made millions from one of the most pointless and environmentally unfriendly sports accuses us of damaging the world by eating meat! ALAN STEAD, Loftus, N. Yorks. HOW many veggie burgers would Lewis Hamilton have to devour to offset pointlessly racing round and round in circles for hours? C. N. GLAZIER, Ilchester, Somerset.
