Strictly’s Claudia: How I stay trim – but avoid the gym

SHE’S a self-confessed fitness-phobe who – despite an enviable figure – says she doesn’t go to the gym.

But Claudia Winkleman has revealed that she has a rather novel way of staying in shape.

The Strictly Come Dancing host, 47, said she is a fan of a new fitness trend called ‘destination walking’ in which she travels a number of stops on the London Underground before walking back the way she came.

‘I don’t go to the gym but do you know what I do sometimes? Don’t laugh, it’s called destination walking,’ she told the Sunday Mirror. ‘It’s genius. You go ten stops on the Tube and then walk home quickly.’

Asked whether she was afraid of ageing, the presenter said she ‘embraces’ it, adding: ‘I can’t wait to be 60 because all I do is play bridge. I’m obsessed. I went on a cruise literally to find people to play bridge with. My mum always says I was born aged 65, so each year I’m getting closer to where I am spiritually.’ She also admitted that she would not be against having cosmetic surgery in the future and that she might have done so sooner if it weren’t for her trademark hairstyle.

‘If I didn’t have a fringe I might be on my eighth face lift by now. The answer is I don’t know, I can’t rule it out,’ she said.
