A furry rotten scoundrel, it’s Michael Caine as Fagin

HE’S certainly picked a role or two in his time. But as the villainous Fagin, Sir Michael Caine can definitely consider himself at home.

The 86-year-old put on his best East End gangster look as he was spotted in character for the first time while filming for a modern-day version of Dickens’s Oliver Twist.

With a bushy moustache, a roll-neck jumper, gold chain and tweed sports jacket, the star – whose credits include Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Get Carter – looked a world away from the Fagin made famous by Ron Moody in the 1968 musical Oliver! In between takes for the Sky Cinema production, Sir Michael was seen wrapping up against the cold in a puffer jacket and used a walking stick to make his way around set. He also took the arm of a production assistant as he walked to and from his trailer.

Sir Michael has been using the stick ever since he broke his ankle last year. Last week pop star Rita Ora was seen shooting her first scenes as the Artful Dodger, in which she wore a police uniform as she dashed through the streets of London.
