Body lay in care home for 24 hours

A CARE home resident lay dead for 24 hours because of a chronic lack of doctors.

The body of the unnamed woman remained in her room until an on-call medic became available to certify the death.

Glasgow GP Ronnie Burns, 49, said that when he began a weekend shift earlier this year, he learned that no out-of-hours doctor had been able to visit the care home to pronounce the resident dead. He said it had been an upsetting incident and that staff ‘remember it well, months later’.
