TWELL PUTS HER CASE FOR OLYMPIC CALL BY SMASHING SCOTTISH BEST

-

STEPH TWELL hammered home her case for preselection for next summer’s Olympics by setting a new Scottish marathon record in Frankfurt. The 30-year-old finished eighth behind Kenyan Valarly Jemeli in 2:26.40, slicing 12 seconds off Liz McColgan’s mark which had stood since 1997, and putting her fifth in the UK’s all-time list in only her second marathon. Twell believes her decision to coach herself is paying off. She said: ‘I’m looking at what I’m trying to get out from each session. I’m very good at pushing myself.’
