Fitness coach f led af ter her ex sent 1,168 texts

Obsessed former lover used 9 fake email accounts in abuse blitz

Scottish Daily Mail - - Forever Autumn ... - By Claire Duffin HER EX-LOVER

A PERSONAL trainer had to flee her home and quit her job when her ex hounded her with more than 1,000 texts and relentless abuse on social media.

Kate Brooks, 35, said his actions after she ended their ‘toxic and controlling’ relationship had left her a ‘broken woman’.

Heath Speakman, 49, falsely accused her of cheating with a colleague and set up fake email and social media accounts to harass her, a court heard.

His messages claimed he had cancer and was about to take his own life and he left a handwritten note on her car claiming he had a sexually transmitted infection and threatening to post offensive messages about it.

On one article called the ‘Naked Truth’ that she posted on her own fitness blog, he replied: ‘Wouldn’t worry, everyone has seen you naked’.

Miss Brooks said she was so scared of Speakman, a father of two who ran a carpet cleaning firm, that she had to have an escort from work and she left home to move in with a friend.

Police said he sent a total of 1,168 text messages and created nine fake email accounts to harangue her over three months. Miss Brooks, of Disley, Greater Manchester, relived her ordeal at Stockport magistrates’ court where Speakman of St Helens, Merseyside was yesterday found guilty of harassment.

He failed to turn up for the trial and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The court heard that he began hounding her after they separated in 2018 after three years together.

She said: ‘I was so sucked into this toxic and controlling relationship, I was completely lost and a shell of a person. I was completely broken. I was with my sister for six weeks,

‘He was accusing me of cheating and lying. I had a blog, since deleted, called “Gym and Toneics” and he used his business page to comment on every single thing I posted.

‘On one post he wrote: “Was Tom there, did you talk about me?”

‘Tom was a personal trainer. I had sessions with him years ago and he was obsessed with that guy. He thought I had cheated with him.’ She told the court that Speakman would show up at her gym ‘all the time’ after their relationship ended.

‘I felt there was no way of getting away from him. He knew my routine.

Work were aware of what was going on. I changed my shift at the gym. I would see his car driving around [and] then parked next to my car.

‘He was suffocating me and coming from all angles – it was non-stop, multiple times a day. I had to leave my job, I didn’t feel safe working at the gym.

‘As a personal trainer I have to put myself out there in the public domain. But any time I have an enquiry from an unknown number, there’s a fear that it’s him.’

He told her he wasn’t going to stop until she responded and he wanted to ‘confront her’ so she called police and he was arrested in August last year.

PC Tracy Brookes told the court: ‘When asked why he continued to contact her after she blocked him, Speakman said he didn’t know if she was getting the message.

‘He said he is receiving treatment at hospital and said he knew about one of the Facebook accounts, but he was not responsible. He confirmed he had been to the gym with his children.’

‘Said he had cancer or would kill himself’
