It’s a boy! Kim and Andy celebrate birth of first son

- By John Paul Breslin

SIR Andy Murray’s wife Kim Sears has given birth to their first son.

The couple have reportedly broken the news of their third child to loved ones.

The Scots tennis star’s grandfather has said both mother and baby are doing well. Roy Erskine, 88, told the Scottish Sun: ‘It’s a wee boy, I don’t know his name yet.

‘I’ve seen photos. I’m just glad it’s over. They’re doing fine.’

The baby is understood to have been born last week at a hospital in London, near former Wimbledon champion Sir Andy and Miss Sears’s home in Oxshott, Surrey.

The couple, both 32, already have two daughters, Sophia, three, and two-year-old Edie.

Mr Erskine, who lives in Sir Andy’s home town of Dunblane, Perthshire, said his wife Shirley, 84, travelled south on Saturday to see the tot.

The birth comes as three-time Grand Slam winner Sir Andy returns from hip surgery.

After his win at the European Open in Antwerp, Belgium, last month, he joked he needed to get back on the road because his ever expanding family was getting ‘out of control’. He also joked that the fact he and Miss Sears were expecting another baby was down to the amount of time he had spent at home with her while recovering from surgery.

In an interview published yesterday, Sir Andy spoke about taking paternity leave in order to help out at home following the birth.

He told The Sunday Times: ‘I’ll definitely be taking some time off as we’ll be pretty busy with three children under the age of four.

‘I’ll try to be around as much as possible in the next year – but I know my tennis career won’t go on for ever, so there will need to be a balance between me maximising the next few years and spending quality time with my family.’
