DUNDEE BID TO MAKE UP FOR ‘FREAK’ DERBY LOSS

- GEORGE GRANT

DUNDEE defender Jordon Forster insists their Tannadice thrashing was a ‘freak’ — and can’t wait to make amends this Friday. Back in August, the Dark Blues were left shell-shocked after a 6-2 hammering by Robbie Neilson’s Dundee United as the hosts ran riot in front of the live cameras. Forster still can’t fathom how they collapsed at the hands of their city rivals but believes James McPake’s resurgent side, who celebrated a third straight Championship win thanks to Friday’s 2-1 victory over Morton, is equipped to wipe the memory of that awful August evening when the two sides meet at Dens Park later this week. Forster said: ‘When you look back at the last derby, it was a bit of a freak one. ‘It’s never nice to concede that amount of goals in any game and lose like that — let alone in a derby. ‘But it’s happened and we need to accept that. We’ve got a point to prove this time and it’s been the perfect set-up for us with three wins under our belt.’ Dundee saw off David Hopkin’s Morton courtesy of substitute Jamie Ness’ 80thminute winner to continue their recent revival. And Forster believed all along that McPake’s newlook side would hit top gear. He added: ‘We deserved to beat Morton. Over the 90 minutes, we created a fair amount of chances and rightly got the three points.’ Graham Dorrans was a stand-out for Dundee in the win over Morton and Forster is backing the ex-Rangers ace to take Friday’s Dens atmosphere in his stride. He added: ‘He’s different class. I’m sure he’ll have the tools in the locker to deal with the pressure and what comes with the occasion.’
