Baldrick: I have a coining plan...

Scottish Daily Mail - - The Brexmas Election -

BLACKADDER would be shocked – Baldrick is giving away money. Sir Tony Robinson is working with the London Mint Office to get Britain coin collecting by giving away 120,000 threepence coins worth £1million. The 1911 George V silver thruppences are available in return for £2.50 postage.

The actor, 73, said: ‘I love the thought that owning an original George V silver threepence might inspire people, of all ages, to start a coin collection or dig deeper into Britain’s rich history.

‘A coin is a piece of history you can hold in your hands. You can feel its weight, study its marks and appreciate the stories behind it.’

The thruppence was introduced during Edward VI’s reign in 1551 and ceased to be legal tender in 1971.
