Anger as Sky ‘empty chairs’ Tory chairman

Scottish Daily Mail - - The Brexmas Election -

OFCOM may investigate Sky after presenter Kay Burley ‘empty chaired’ Conservative Party chairman James Cleverly yesterday.

She claimed he had missed a planned appearance on her breakfast show, although he said he had not been due to appear and was doing a radio interview at the time.

Miss Burley, pictured yesterday making points to an empty chair in the broadcaster’s Westminster studio, provoked 23 complaints to Ofcom as a result of her action.

The media watchdog said: ‘We are assessing these against our broadcasting rules before deciding whether or not to investigate.’ Sitting next to a vacant seat that she said was ‘supposed to be filled’ by Mr Cleverly, Miss Burley said: ‘Where is he? He’s probably 15ft away from where I’m standing.

‘I’ve been in to see him during the break. He said he wasn’t due to come and talk to us today, although they had said they would.’

Miss Burley then listed topics she had hoped to discuss, including Boris Johnson’s comparison of Jeremy Corbyn to Joseph Stalin. Mr Cleverly later responded to Miss Burley’s claims, saying he had not been booked to go on the Sky show.
