‘Un-Christian’ yoga banned at church hall

Scottish Daily Mail - - News -

A YOGA teacher has been banned from hiring a church hall for classes because the activity is ‘not compatible’ with Christian beliefs.

Atsuko Kato, 54, an instructor for 25 years, was dismayed after trying and failing to book the hall at St Mary’s Church Pilton in Barnstaple, North Devon, last week.

It claims yoga – which has links to Hinduism and Buddhism – cannot be permitted because it does not acknowledge that ‘there is only one God’.

Miss Kato said: ‘They said they weren’t allowed to host yoga classes because it was not compatible with Christian beliefs.’

The Reverend Nigel Dilkes said: ‘Under the terms of the trust deed [the church hall] is to be used for activities compatible with Christian faith. Why not enjoy Pilates instead?’
