IT’s that time of year again, when the British public get a kick out of watching squeamish celebrities chomp on kangaroo testicles and crawl through insect-infested tunnels.
And now the full line-up for this year’s I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here has been officially revealed.
Alongside the usual singers and soap stars, Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, 52, and ex-Arsenal footballer Ian Wright, 56, will compete to become the new queen or king of the jungle.
Ex-Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle, 34, former England rugby player James Haskell, 34, and former Olympian turned reality star Caitlyn Jenner are also taking part in the new series, which kicks off on sunday.
Miss Garraway, who wants to ‘fly the flag for the older woman’, said she was going to use the jungle experience in Australia to get away from the news and joked she will ‘ban’ Brexit chat.
she said: ‘I am a news junkie and I can’t remember a time when I haven’t read a paper or even when I am abroad watched the news on a TV or your phone. But maybe one of the joys of doing I’m A Celebrity will be not talking about Brexit.’
Meanwhile, football pundit Wright revealed reigning king of the jungle Harry Redknapp, 72, urged him to go on the show.
He said: ‘Harry and I play golf together and we spoke about it. He had a really great time, it was a fantastic thing for him to do and he is still talking about it to this day.’ He joked that the ‘football fraternity’, especially Tottenham Hotspur fans (Arsenal’s biggest rival), will be voting for him to do the bushtucker trials.
Caitlyn Jenner, 70, is said to be the highest paid campmate reportedly earning £500,000 for taking part.
But she should know what to expect from the show as she went on the American version in 2003. she said: ‘I thought this would be a great opportunity to leave everything behind for three weeks. Last time, it was almost like a cleansing of the soul.’
Jenner, who underwent gender reassignment in 2017, said dealing with fellow campmates will be ‘by far the hardest thing’.
‘It’s much more difficult than dealing with the most poisonous snakes in the world. That’s easy – just stay away from them,’ she added. Also competing in the show’s nineteenth series is BBC Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts, 40, and 44-year-old Irish comedian Andrew Maxwell.
Former East-Enders actress Jacqueline Jossa, 27, Myles stephenson, 28, from boyband Rak-su and Capital FM’s Roman Kemp, 26, are also vying for the crown.
I’m A Celebrity bosses have said they are ‘closely monitoring’ the area close to the jungle camp in New south Wales, amid a heatwave which has sparked huge bushfires in Australia. But a show spokesman said: ‘We currently have no cause for concern.’
