Thug stole Porsche at knifepoint and crashed into police patrol car

- By Wilma Riley

A THUG robbed a woman of her £51,500 Porsche at knifepoint and hours later crashed it into a police car, injuring two officers.

Ryan Gilmour, who was on early release from prison, was lurking nearby when Lindsey Cartwright drove into the driveway of her home.

The High Court in Glasgow heard the 27-year-old and an unidentified accomplice, who brandished a 12in knife, told the terrified woman: ‘Give us the keys.’

Mrs Cartwright, 47, threw the keys at them, shouted for help and her husband ran from their home in Partick, Glasgow, about 6.25pm on November 28 last year.

Prosecutor Lindsay Dalziel said: ‘At this point [Mr Cartwright’s] wife was telling him it “wasn’t worth it” and that [Gilmour] had a knife. Both witnesses then saw the Porsche

being driven at speed out of their driveway.’ Around 10pm that night the Porsche Macan was parked at Bridgewater Shopping Centre in Erskine, Renfrewshire, where it hit the car of Daniel Brain.

Mr Brain approached Garry Clark, who was in the driver’s seat and said: ‘You hit my car.’ When Mr Brain bent down to check the damage and take a photo, he felt a sharp implement against his back and Clark said: ‘Get tae f*** or I’ll stick this in you.’ Mr Brain, 30, later noticed sunglasses, a mobile phone and adaptor were missing from his car.

At 12.05am, police on patrol saw the Macan coming over the brow of a hill. It was being driven at speed and was on the wrong side of the road overtaking another car.

Miss Dalziel said: ‘The police vehicle stopped in an effort to avoid a collision. The accused, Gilmour, who was driving, lost control of the Porsche and crashed into the police car.’

The police car was damaged and the doors would not open. Both officers suffered bruising.

Gilmour admitted robbing Mrs Cartwright at knifepoint. He also pleaded guilty to care

less driving by failing to stop when signalled to do so by police officers, driving on the wrong side of the road and losing control of the vehicle, which crashed into a police car in Fulton Street, Glasgow.

His co-accused Clark, 33, of Glasgow, admitted assaulting Mr Brain by holding a knife or similar instrument against his body and robbing him of a mobile phone, a phone charger and sunglasses.

Gilmour, who is a disqualified driver, has 12 previous convictions which include assault and possession of a knife.

Clark has five convictions including domestic abduction and assault with a knife.

Judge Lord Burns deferred sentence for reports. Both men were remanded.
