Find out how price cap changes will impact your bills this autumn

Early this month, Ofgem lowered the energy price cap for standard variable tariffs for the upcoming winter. Nonetheless, standard tariffs (sometimes referred to as default tariffs) are still far more expensive than the cheapest fixed rate tariffs on the market. Here are more reasons as to why you'd be better off switching.

Protect yourself from price rises

The benefit of a fixed rate tariff is that you are protected from any fluctuations that take place within the energy market. A default tariff is — as the name suggests — the default tariff of choice that an energy supplier will put your household on, unless you request otherwise. To put it another way, energy suppliers rely on consumers to be complacent when it comes to managing their energy bills.
