I got cancer all-clear...then minutes later won lotto £1m
A LUCKY grandmother found out she had won the lottery just ten minutes after being told that she had beaten breast cancer.
Lynne Price, 55, opened a letter saying her scan results were clear moments before her husband David came home to announce they had won £1million.
The pair hugged each other with joy before Mrs Price took a relaxing two-hour soak in the bath to let the double whammy sink in.
Mrs Price, a mother of three, said: ‘I had just read the letter saying I had the all clear when David came home from work to say we’d won the lottery.
‘I can’t tell you what I said – it’s too rude – but I was in total shock.
‘I was shaking with shock and totally lost for words which never happens.
‘I went and had a bath for two hours and just lay there unable to take it all in.’
Mr Price, 53, checked his ticket at work to discover he had won a whopping £1million on the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker.
He said: ‘I went home to tell Lynne but she had some big news of her own.
‘The letter saying she had the all clear is worth more than a million to me.’
Laundry worker Mrs Price was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and, after treatment, she underwent a scan last month.
The couple are now planning a holiday to escape the country next month during the General Election. They will also be celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary.
The Prices, from New Tredegar, South Wales, revealed it is the third huge Lottery win for their family.
They are distantly related to Ade Goodchild, 58, who won £71million on EuroMillions in March.
And Mr Price’s sister, Judith, was part of a Cardiff cigar factory syndicate that scooped a fortune back in the 1990s.
Mr Price said: ‘It’s pretty amazing to have three big winners in one family.’
He revealed his workmates at British Airways in Pontllanfraith, Caerphilly, nicknamed him ‘Lucky Dai’ before his big lottery win.
He said: ‘It was always a bit of a joke but now it’s really come true. I still can’t quite believe it.
‘We’ve been doing the lottery since it started – you put your money on but you don’t really expect to win a million.’
Mr Price is due to hike to Everest base camp on a threeweek expedition next year.
He was saving up for the once-in a-lifetime trip but has now been able to pay for it in one go.
The couple, who have three children aged 32, 26 and 24 and an 11-year-old grandson Corey, are also planning a trip to China. They said it has always been their dream destination.
Mr and Mrs Price both plan to carry on working while they plan how to best spend their riches.
Mr Price bought two EuroMillions tickets while buying a pint of milk from his local corner shop Bal’s Best-One Convenience Store in New Tredegar.
A National Lottery spokesman said: ‘David and Lynne have such a happy story to help us celebrate 25 years of the lottery.’
