STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

-

MY SEVEN-YEAR-OLD nephew is severely autistic. My sister and I want to open a Junior Isa for him and save on his behalf so that when he turns 18 he will have enough money to buy a service dog. Can I do this?

J. M., London.

THIS is a lovely idea. I’m afraid only parents and legal guardians can open a Junior Isa for loved ones. But if they do this, you and your sister can contribute up to £4,368 in the 2019/20 tax year.

You could also consider buying Premium Bonds for your nephew, which National Savings & Investments does now allow.

He might also be entitled to a grant. Search charity Turn2Us’s database

(grants-search.turn2us.org.uk).

I FOUND an old tax rebate cheque for £686.65, dated April 2002. I have asked

HMRC several times to reissue the cheque but I have still not received it.

J. H., Lancashire.

HMRC apologises for the delay, which it says was a result of ‘miscommunication’. It has now reissued the cheque.

AN email sent on September 15 said my online security subscription would automatically renew the following month. I tried several times to cancel but it proved impossible, and the provider, Kaspersky, took the money on October 3.

J. L., by email.

KASPERSKY agreed to refund you £44.95 for the subscription you did not want and struggled to cancel. The firm adds that while it does not comment on individual cases, customers can cancel by calling customer services or visiting its selfservice webpage.

I AM a long-standing customer of TalkTalk and have two accounts for broadband, in my residence and second home. I have been told one of my accounts has been closed — which I did not request. Now TalkTalk is refusing to discuss the matter with me.

C. C., by email.

TALKTALK says you were given incorrect information by call centre staff. It has apologised, cleared your balance of £21.57 and paid £50 compensation.
