Surfer dies af­ter res­cue from waves

A SURFER died yes­ter­day af­ter get­ting into dif­fi­culty off a beach on the Isle of Lewis.

He was pulled from the sea at Bar­vas, a pop­u­lar surf­ing spot on the is­land’s west coast, and emer­gency ser­vices were alerted.

Po­lice said the man was flown to West­ern Isles Hos­pi­tal in Stornoway, where he was pro­nounced dead.

A po­lice spokesman said: ‘In­quiries are on­go­ing into the cir­cum­stances and the procu­ra­tor fis­cal has been in­formed.’

They said no fur­ther de­tails would be re­leased un­til next of kin had been con­tacted.
