Blow for Blunt as £4,000 cannabis trip is cut short

-

CRISPIN BLUNT, 59, who hopes to be reselected as Tory MP for Reigate at the forthcoming election, is in favour of a liberal drugs policy.

Unfortunately, his chance to air his views at a cannabis conference in Jamaica in September went up in smoke.

Blunt flew to the Caribbean at a cost of almost £4,000, but never got to reach his oratorical high as, soon after arriving, his visit was cut short. ‘I was sitting in a TV studio in Kingston, Jamaica, when the Supreme Court ruled that the proroguing of Parliament had been unlawful,’ he tells me.

‘Parliament was no longer in recess, so I had to return home.’

Blunt, who is the uncle of actress Emily Blunt, told the House of Commons in 2016 he would be ‘directly affected’ by a ban on legal highs as he regularly used ‘poppers’.
