FKA TWIGS: Magdalene (Young Turks)

TAHLIA BARNETT — or FKA Twigs — has taken five years to come up with this sequel to her Mercury-nominated debut but the wait is worth it. The exdancer can be precious and some songs are glitchy and meandering. But she shows admirable adventure, with Thousand Eyes inspired by her split from Twilight actor Robert Pattinson and Mirrored Heart a bewitching piano piece. ★★★★✩

VARIOUS: Peaky Blinders (UMC)

NICK CAVE’S theme tune sets the tone of smoky menace on this double album of songs from the BBC series. Brand new tracks from PJ Harvey, Jehnny Beth and Richard Hawley rub shoulders with White Stripes’ ragged blues and modern classics by Arctic Monkeys and Savages. Black Sabbath’s The Wizard adds a fitting Brummie edge. ★★★★✩
