Council outfoxed

-

I AGREE that there are too many petty rules about the disposal of rubbish (Letters).

When we found a dead fox behind our hedge, we contacted the council. Since the fox was not on the highway, we were advised it was not their responsibility.

We were told to put the carcass in our dustbin. We pointed out it would not be emptied for two weeks.

We were then advised to take the fox to the local recycling centre. There, the jobsworth supervisor suggested I take the fox to a local vet. Sarcastically, I said the poor creature was past veterinary help.

however, the vet did help us. The fox was cremated with other dead animals. It transpired lots of roadkill is directed to them, presumably since this means of disposal is at nil cost to the council.

Arguably a more ecological, though illegal, solution would have been to fly-tip the creature in the countryside to feed the wildlife.
