It’s not downsizing: it’s right-sizing!

-

MOVING out of your family home can be a wrench, especially if you’ve been there for many years and feel the walls are full of wonderful memories. And moving into an apartment can feel like an impossibility if you’re used to living in a large, possibly detached house.

But people who’ve already done it say it makes sense. When they no longer need to dust bedrooms that are never slept in, or dining rooms that are rarely used, they say they have time to relax and enjoy life for a change. They’ve even coined a name for it: Right-sizing rather than the dreaded downsizing.

Recent movers also say it wasn’t as hard to clear out their old homes as they had expected. Old furniture that won’t be needed in a modern, easy-to-maintain apartment can do good by going to a charity shop (McCarthy & Stone’s recommended removal teams can advise on decluttering and help find charities happy to take unwanted items away). Packing can actually unlock wonderful memories, as we go through items we’ve not looked at in years. Recommended removals staff tend to know the dimensions of McCarthy & Stone properties, so can work out what will fit and where. They can also help you unpack when your new life begins. Need help rebuilding beds, hanging pictures or setting up the TV? Just ask!
