At Home: whether you choose to rent or buy

-

YOU no longer need to buy an apartment in a McCarthy & Stone development outright to enjoy the cleverly designed, high-spec surroundings, the attentive staff and the camaraderie of your fellow residents. Newly introduced options allow you to rent an apartment or to part buy, part rent one instead.

‘It’s all about offering people the most flexible options possible,’ says director of multi-tenure Alison Nunez, who is determined to open up the properties to as many people as possible.

‘We know some people aren’t ready to buy, maybe because their old home hasn’t yet sold or because they prefer to keep that property in the family. Renting with us or buying part of the property and renting the remainder can be a perfect alternative.’

Renting also means you may be able to move into a McCarthy & Stone property in a matter of weeks – good to know, if you don’t want to wait to sell your current home and re-buy. Staff at McCarthy & Stone can explain the various options in more detail. And recent residents and their families can attest to how useful these new choices can be.

Eva Walters has just taken advantage of the rental option for her father, Alan, who has just returned from living in Spain. ‘The move was stressful for him, so we found him a serviced apartment at first, but in the long term we knew he needed to feel more secure and to be part of a community,’ she says. ‘We wanted somewhere that would encourage him to get out and socialise, but with support on hand, should he need it.’

That’s exactly what McCarthy & Stone offers at its developments.

Eva picked the Williams Place development near her home in Oxfordshire and was delighted that her dad could rent rather than buy. ‘Rental is the perfect compromise, as we don’t know what the future holds,’ she says. Better still, her father is thriving. ‘Dad pops down to the communal lounge to catch up with people over a cup of tea, has a secure entry system and extra support if needed. His apartment is modern, open plan and welcoming. He’s already enjoying events there and has even taken a singing class.’
