A message from the Chief Executive

- John Tonkiss, Chief Executive Officer, McCarthy & Stone

“You never feel lonely in a place like this

‘You never feel lonely in a place like this.’ These were the first words that new resident Sylvie said to me. She had decided to sell her three-bedroom cottage in Tetbury after her husband passed away and had purchased one of our apartments in Tenby. She told me she was looking for a new start and the move had changed her life for the better.

Sylvie, featured above, was already enjoying the communal spaces, the on-site support and management, the landscaped gardens and all that her new location had to offer. She also loved the fact that she had her privacy and independence, but also had the peace of mind that came with being surrounded by like-minded people who could be called upon when needed.

I hear similar stories across our 425 managed developments, as we make a profound difference to the lives of our residents and their families, from helping people like Sylvie make that new start to providing on-site care and support for those with additional needs. It’s also an opportunity for customers to embrace a new way of life, to have the freedom to live a lifestyle with more choices and more time for the things they enjoy.

We will continue to develop our products and services to provide deeper, longer relationships with our customers, to improve our hospitality offering, develop our care services and look at new construction methods. In addition to our Retirement Living properties, we also have extra care available at our Retirement Living PLUS communities. We are also providing a choice of ownership through our multi-tenure options across more than 70 developments, which include rental and part buy, part rent.

I believe that an active involvement in our customers’ lives and the services that support them is critical to enriching the quality of their lives and that of their families.
