FALKLANDS LINK

FROM November 20 there will be a new way to reach the Falkland Islands, 8,000 miles south of the UK. LATAM is starting a weekly flight from the Brazilian city of São Paulo to Mount Pleasant Airport, just in time for summer on these scenic islands where the wildlife includes penguins, elephant seals and huge colonies of albatrosses (latam.com, falkland islands.com).

SAFE CONNECTION

PASSENGERS passing through Stansted spend an average 26 minutes using its free Wi-fi service, so it’s good to know it is now part of the governmentinitiated Friendly Wi-fi scheme. This ensures inappropriate content gets filtered out in public hotspots, with particular regard to protecting children (stanstedairport.com, friendlywifi.com).

FLY TO FIJI

A NEW partnership between Finnair and Fiji Airways offers a handy route to the South Pacific flying from Heathrow, Manchester or Edinburgh. Fares for the 25-hour journey to Nadi via Helsinki and Hong Kong are from £1,290 return (finnair.com, fiji.travel).

SUNSHINE ESCAPES

THINKING of booking a break somewhere warm? Jet2.com has increased its flights to many favourite destinations for this winter, especially the Canary Islands. Routes include Birmingham to Gran Canaria, Leeds Bradford to Lanzarote, Newcastle to Fuerteventura and Glasgow to Tenerife (jet2.com).

ALLERGY ALERT

FLYING can be traumatic for passengers with an allergy, particularly as every airline has its own policy regarding food usage. Go to the Anaphylaxis Campaign website and you can quickly find out what the policy is for 34 major carriers, as well as getting advice on the best flights to book and the steps to take once on board (anaphylaxis. org.uk).
