DATING PAST

I’ve had three serious relationships, and I was with my last girlfriend for three years. We split because she’s an opera singer and had to move abroad for work. We ended on good terms though. I’ve been single for seven months and I’ve avoided the dating apps so far. It’s much more natural to meet someone through work or while out socialising.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I’ve never been on a blind date before, but I do enjoy dating and meeting new people, so I wasn’t nervous.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

We’d arranged to meet at fish restaurant Northbank, near St Paul’s Cathedral. The restaurant was perfect for a first date; the setting was stunning with incredible views of the River Thames. I arrived five minutes early and waited at the bar for eloise. She’s beautiful, with a lovely smile. She’s petite and was wearing a black-and-white coat with sparkly buttons. Underneath she wore a smart dress.

EASY TO TALK TO?

We boTh had a gin and tonic before going to our table and didn’t stop talking. We covered everything about our lives. We shared a bottle of white wine over our meal and the conversation flowed really easily. eloise has written two books. I found that fascinating and was definitely intrigued. I enjoy reading and I’m hoping to get a sneak preview of the draft of her next one!

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

NoNe. I don’t embarrass easily.

DID SPARKS FLY?

NoT really. She’s good looking and fun to talk to, but there wasn’t an initial romantic spark. I’d mentioned I’d like to see her again as friends and go to the theatre together and she happily agreed.

DID YOU KISS?

No, We did go on for cocktails at a bar in Leicester Square afterwards though.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

ThaT we’re quite similar. We ordered the same food at the restaurant, and then both declined dessert. We also had lots in common — we both enjoy the theatre and creative arts.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HER?

They’d love her. I’m really glad I did it.
