‘BUZZING’ AMAZON CATCH DRAMA OF POCH’S FINAL DAYS IN CHARGE
AMAZON PRIME are the big winners in the sensational goings-on at Tottenham because they have had behind-the-scenes access to Mauricio Pochettino’s final days and the hiring of Jose Mourinho. The Premier League’s newest rights holders are recording a fly-on-the-wall documentary series with Spurs this season. It became a major source of frustration for Pochettino, who was even forced to let himself be filmed 24/7 in his office. Yesterday Amazon were at the training ground to film Mourinho on his first day in the job, from his 6.30am announcement to his official photoshoot and debut training session. Their footage will also show a mood change at the Hotspur Way base in recent weeks, though it is understood cameras were not present for Pochettino’s sacking itself. Sportsmail’s Matt Hughes revealed in September that Spurs were in talks with Amazon over a multi-million-pound series and that the manager was far from pleased with the arrangement. That was one of a number of disagreements between the Argentine and chairman Daniel
Levy this season. Another involving cameras cropped up in July, when players were returning for pre-season. Pochettino asked if he could install fixed cameras on the training pitches to record sessions, but Levy refused to cover the £80,000 cost. According to sources, the manager even offered to pay it himself — but Levy’s answer was still no. Then the chairman agreed to the £10million Amazon arrangement and the installation of cameras in Pochettino’s office. It remains to be seen how compliant Mourinho will be with the documentary, but his willingness to take part in filming yesterday has encouraged insiders at the streaming service. Amazon are said to be ‘buzzing’ about the access, with Tottenham’s trip to face Mourinho’s former club, Manchester United, to be broadcast by the streaming service on December 4.
