Childbirth dangers

Scottish Daily Mail - - Freeview Primetime Planner -

AS a retired GP and mother of five, I am horrified at the reports of deaths of mothers and babies (Mail).

Childbirth has always been fraught with danger, and the way through it used to be with the care of an experienced midwife and doctor team. The modern midwife has had no general nursing experience. Aged 21, she has a degree in midwifery. In the past, a fully qualified State Registered Nurse would choose to go forward for further training as a midwife. That experience is invaluable. Sometimes it’s profitable to look backwards in order to make progress.

Dr OLIVE DUDDY, Bury, Gtr Manchester.
